India - The Jubilee Celebration of Indian Province

For the Religious of the Assumption of the Indian province, 20th May 2017 was a very significant and important day. We celebrated four great events on that day ;

  1.  The closing of the bicentenary of the birth of our founding mothers, St.Marie-Eugenie and Mother Therese Emmanuel.
  2. The first vows of two novices, Nijora and Shruti
  3. The final vows of Sr.Rashmi and Sr.Swarnlatha
  4. The opening of the Golden Jubilee celebration of the arrival of the Religious of the Assumption in India

We started the preparation for the celebration of 20th May 2017 from May 2016 province assembly. We had the preparation in a personal, community and province level. The sisters studied the writings of St. Marie-Eugenie and Mother Therese Emmanuel along with the Assumption Together. We sacrificed and collected a part of the fund for the celebration. We formed different committees and entrusted the various responsibilities to them. The province went through a spiritual renewal along with other preparations. As the part of renewal program, we had age wise sessions. The communities studied and reflected together on different topics prepared by the spiritual renewal team. The preparation committees met at different times to make this event a memorable one. We had the opening of the bicentenary celebration in all the communities on 15th August 2016 with the Assumption Together.

Rev. Bishop, Thomas Dabre, the Bishop of Pune Diocese blessed us with the devout and solemn Eucharist on this beautiful day. He is a close friend of the Assumption Sisters and a great support for us.

The gracious and encouraging presence of Sr.Martine Tapsoba, the Superior General of the Religious of the Assumption, doubled our joy of the celebration. The four sisters who professed their vows on this auspicious day were blessed with the presence of Sr. Martine Tapsoba .

The theme we have chosen for the jubilee year is, “50 years of blessings…, launching out into the deep…with Jesus…towards New Horizons……”It is our time to thank the Lord for His blessings and graces and rejoice in the marvelous deeds He has done for us as Assumption Sisters in India. We have been journeying with Jesus for the past 50 years partaking in the mission of Jesus – incarnating the love of God, through transformative education. The mission started in Kerala in the year 1968 and gradually spread to Maharashtra, Bihar and Jharkhand. The life journey of the province sailed with leaps and bounds, under the guidance of dedicated sisters ; and of course, with the support of the Generalate.

After the solemn Eucharistic celebration, there was a felicitation followed by a colorful cultural program. There was a video show depicting the 50 years of life and mission of Assumption sisters in India.

Sr. Rekha, the provincial superior of Indian province was the back bone of this historic day of celebration by guiding, supporting and encouraging us.

The members of the Assumption Together, worked hard to make this event a memorable one. They expressed their love for Assumption and St. Marie Eugenie through their commitment and spirit of sacrifice.

Almost all the sisters of the province could join the celebration and it had a great impact on us. It will remain in our hearts as a memorable day and it will help us to commit our lives totally to the kingdom with more passion as daughters of St. Marie-Eugenie.
