I’ve often observed in my students (and in myself, too) a tendency to hesitate in making decisions. There is a lot more options now making it difficult to pick just one, in fear of missing out on the others.
That’s why from among all the experiences of day 2 what stood out for me was Fr Benoit’s reflection on being ’responsible for our baptism’. It’s a beautiful thought that God’s invitation is a two-way street, a real and authentic experience of communion where our Creator meets us halfway, encouraging us to make a decision, to ’put out into the deep’, because fullness is in making the decision, the commitment.
In a world where it can sometimes be tricky to distinguish among the real, virtual, and hyper-real, God gives us a ’lifesaver’, so to speak, a concrete and constant anchor—in our baptism He pours out his Spirit into us, claiming us fully as His own, and in the process empowers us to choose life, to choose Him, in whom alone there us fullness of life.
